Newcastle 2-2 TownSat 16th Mar 2002 18:22 An Alan Shearer penalty in time beyond the three minutes added on by referee Mike Riley threatened to give all the points to Newcastle from an exciting game at St James' Park. Fortunately for Town, Shearer put his kick wide of the post and a point was the least Town deserved after a battling display had twice seen them ahead through Marcus Bent. That the penalty had been awarded for an obvious dive by Clarence Acuna would have added extra salt to the wound, had Shearer scored.
Charlton 3-2 TownTue 01st Jan 2002 17:59 Town fell to a first defeat in four games after going two goals up in four minutes. Marcus Bent scored both early goals before Charlton hit back through Robinson and Parker. In the second half Jason Euell hit the winner.
